After a day of preparation yesterday we had a benign sail at 5 knots to Moorea. Dropped anchor in Robinson Crusoe bay in the Baie de L'Opunohu. It sure feels like Robinson Crusoe except for the road nearby. Moorea is much more a tourist island with the ubiquitous hut over the water hotels everywhere. The water is much cleaner than Tahiti which makes a pleasant change in fact the reason for the over the water hotels is the beautiful aqua water in the shallows and the large number of fish meandering around coral heads.
We dropped anchor and got the dinghy unpacked, hoisted the motor out and went for a ride up the coast to the township. The distance of five miles didn't seem too bad going there. Unfortunately the skies darkened and dumped in a big way so the camera and phone immediately went in the waterproof bag and another endurance test of driving a dinghy in heavy tropical rain began. The feeling of making it back to the boat and getting dry is like coming in after a days skiing minus the cold of course. The rain burns your skin and I'm still feeling the glow after a couple of hours have passed.
Feeling slightly neurotic about the anchor, there is a strong wind howling outside and there is a constant need, almost like a twitch, to check our position with trees and things on shore. It does make it hard to concentrate so till next time.....
