After yesterday's glassy conditions, todays 6 knots is wonderful. The boat is sliding silently through the water, barely making a sound and the boat is travelling at 4.5kts. The sunshine is constant away from land which means finding shade is essential. I did have to put on a shirt last night though, as it got a little chilly. (sorry Victorians). The weather is truly benign which doesnt lead to fast times but it is very pleasant. Easy to cook and get some chores done too.
Last night was a spectacular sunset, the sky was lit with red. At the same time on the opposite side of the sky a brilliant full moon rose. The mix of colours between the two was striking and the night failed to get dark at any point. The brightness of the moon made sailing easier than daylight as you didnt need sunglasses. The seas have abated and the gently rocking of the boat now is so much better than the lumpy seas you get in the lee of islands and certainly had yesterday.
One thing to look out for when miles out to sea off Tahiti and the other islands, outriggers. More than 15 miles offshore of Bora Bora I had to alter course to avoid an outrigger which I only chanced to see. So small and so far out. Apparently the waves are good and when the wind and swells are right they zip between islands.
