Farr Gone is to be hauled out tomorrow to have it's bottom redecorated. Unfortunately, this means that the backstay had to be removed. Normally that is easy but this dude had opted for a slick radar mount that attached to the backstay. In order to remove it the radar, ais, gps, and sat phone aerials all had to come down as well as the mount itself. I had failed in my efforts to delegate the task and so faced the prospect of another long drive. Fortunately it was a great drive. Spring has well and truly sprung and the Newell Isis and Bunya Highways were glorious. On Friday the ignition got turned off in Moree which meant a pleasant drive of six hours on Saturday. I left Moree and had a very enjoyable drive through the hills to the coast through peanut country.
As I arrived in Bundaberg Port I was annoyed to find the car park full. Grumpily I proceeded to empty the ute and lump the stuff pertaining to the mission at hand. I was a touch disturbed to see several guys and an excited looking girl running around with purpose and with guns. Note to US readers, that is very unusual.
As I got closer to the boat there were several of these armed types leaning on my boat. Naturally this was even more unsettling but as it became apparent that it was my boat they were reclining on they became more reasonable almost apologizing. It then emerged that the boat next door was involved in smuggling 400 kilos of white stuff. It took all of yesterday to remove the drugs inside and today they have hauled out the boat to check the keel.
Apparently channel seven filmed the event but unfortunately I can't get tv reception here. The marina is in a black hole for tv but you can imagine the gossip around the marina. Most exciting thing to happen in Bundy in living memory. I must admit that it was a little tough watching two guys carrying fifty kilo bags of coke away. If each kilo was worth 200 k then fifty would be worth.....enough to never worry again.
Btw radar mount is down and the boat is ready for it's appointment with the crane in the morning.
