Changes.

About once an hour, today everything has changed. Clouds come and go, rain too and the wind comes from a variety of compass points. Keeps the sailor on his toes. Strange day finding me on different tacks and at different speeds.
Speaking of compass's, the ships compass has died. No great loss as it had an air bubble that prevented accurate use but of course this means either the three electronic compasses and a cheap handheld and one in the binoculars so I'm covered. I had to pull out the binnacle mount compass to tighten and loctite two screws that persistently loosened and this made the wheel wobble badly. Anyway tightened the screws and thought I'd have a go at the compass, after all, what could possibly go wrong? Well the problem was a crack in the base and of course my investigation turned the crack into a fracture. The housing had just died of sun exposure so of course there was the flood of fluid from the compass and no possibility of repair. Still I'm keeping the wreckage in case. At the time Jimmy Buffet was singing slow boat to china, with the line "honey throw the compass over the rail". He got a laugh and I considered following his advice.
