We tied up to a mooring at 10.30am yesterday and promptly got swept away. Not by water but hospitality. We are moored at the Waitui Marina Yacht club whose rules are worth repeating.
1. Life is short, relax and be happy
2. If someone does you a favour, pass it along.
3. Try not to get drunk and fall off the dock
4. If you fall off the dock please try to float face up.
5. If you see someone floating in the water, please fish them out. Their family may thank you.
6. Smile and laugh as much as possible.
After completing customs and immigration we were informed that we had to wait until Monday before we could leave which causes a hiccup as we had hoped to go to Leleuvia Island to see the Baillieus and others but that has to wait. This also complicates the pickup of Lucy on Wednesday but I am assured that arrangements are easy to make to have her transferred to us so I am hoping that is so.
A group of ex pat locals invited us to the local junior sailing club to see their preparations for the upcoming championships in the Cook Islands and really that just involved beer drinking and discussions about types of boats and it went on until quite late. Jack and I piled into bed exhausted around 10pm. I hadn't slept for the last two nights as navigating Fijian waters in the dark is somewhat challenging. The sail was quite arduous too as the seas were lumpy and the wind variable which meant frequent sail changes. Jack has finally got his sea legs on but he did a lot of sleeping so it felt like I was still solo sailing.
