A very long hard night. Now I'm feeling sorry for Jack. The seas are very rough, the wind is strong and the skies are overcast with occasional rainstorms. Between yesterday afternoon and midnight we made a lot of progress sitting on 8 to 10 knots but it got too hard to keep it up so I dropped the main which made life more civilised although the big seas are making sure movement is difficult and sitting in the cockpit is an invitation for a soaking. Unfortunately sitting below is very hot and stuffy as the windows and ports need to be kept closed to avoid waves joining us indoors as well. I managed to get my bed soaked and Jack has been woken more than once by flying water so its all hatches closed. I've rigged up a fan for him which is some help.
He is reluctant to eat as he still feels queasy and doesnt want to be throwing up. Hopefully we can get to the shelter of the exploring isles in the next short while so that we can settle down and recover a bit although we are not allowed to stop until we reach Savu Savu to check into Fijian waters. We have around 150m to go to Savu Savu but should be in the lee of the exploring isles in 5 hours or so which will be a relief. It seems we will be arriving tomorrow, Saturday, for the immigration and customs which is a shame as I will have to pay overtime rates and I'm not sure what that involves. Oh well, I'll find out.
