Finally got the computer to send mail so the blog is back up. Thank
heavens as I was enjoying my daily ritual of writing. The Marqueses are
hundreds of miles behind now and we are closing in on Rangiroa, a
beautiful atoll in the middle of the pacific and the idea of anchoring
in a quite lagoon is very appealing especially after the very rolly
anchorages of the Marquesas. We left Nuku Hiva without water as it was
so badly contaminated there and went to Ua Pou to fill tanks. We ended
up overnighting there in the beautiful harbour with amazing volcanic
spires rising thousands of feet above us.
The sail from there has been a broad reach with consistently high speeds
although the boats bum badly needs a clean which would be slowing us
down a lot. Looking forward to being able to do that in Rangiroa. The
anchorage at Nuku Hiva was way to rolly to do it and the sharks were a
little off putting. They were about six foot. The locals would swim in
the middle of the day but not at morning or night. I didn't share their
confidence as I saw them in the middle of the day.
The boat is going well with only some minor issues to attend to in
Tahiti. We should arrive in Rangiroa tomorrow morning and plan to spend
one or two nights there. Will continue blogging then.
