As it turns out yesterdays sailing was brisk. In a straight line we managed 175nm but a dog leg was sailed and there may be an extra few miles there. The crew have suggested an extra rum ration be issued and the captain has no objection.
We are now entering the rather interesting place called the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone. Its kind of the no mans land between the winds of the north and south. Storms meander through but there is little wind usually. Hopefully, and with the ever helpful Waz and Will giving advice, a short path across can be found. I do have an interest in seeing just what its like though. Supposedly a bit oppresive so just a short experience might be the ticket.
Being so far out to sea I feel empowered to do anything I want and of course singing came to mind. No one can complain, or for that matter experience the pleasure at hearing my voice out here so I was letting fly with a little help from Colin Hay on the stereo turned way up ( just in case the fish didn't like the singing) when the stereo gave a gasp and died. It turns out unfortunately that its on the same circuit as the VHF which is a drag. Should be easy to fix and I have a handheld in the meantime. Ah the chores. Never ending.
Out here is amazing. Ever changing (means lots of sail trimming) but so vast. I was under the impression that after certain distances from land birds become scarce. Not so. There are a variety of birds out here catching fish quite successfully. If I'd remembered my Gould League stuff I'd be able to tell you what they are but alas.
