Fishguard to Pwllheli

52:53.28N 04:24.48W Sunday – we’ve changed shipping areas again so we’re now in St Davids Head to Great Orme Head, including St Georges channel. Today we’re crossing the length of Cardigan Bay and it’s all blue – the sea is greeny blue, the sky a bright blue and the hills inbetween are a gentle, hazy blue. It’s a huge, very beautiful, bay and the sea is glassy. The highlight is seeing seals on 3 occasions – each time the seal popped his head out of the water to watch the boat go by. My goal was to see puffins, dolphins and seals so I’m happy. We’ve been looking at our destination, Pwllheli, and each time I’ve written it down I’ve wondered how to pronounce it – so imagine my consternation when I discover the call sign for the marina is ‘hafan Pwllheli’ – oh well, time to make an idiot of myself again! We arrived early at the harbour entrance and decided to nudge our way up the approach rather than sit outside for an hour. The inevitable happened but with some jumping about we managed to get back off and creep into the marina. Guess the number 1 priority – no, you’re wrong, it’s the showers! The visitors pontoon is at the very edge of the marina with a brackish tidal area behind, and from the boat we can see swans, ducks, a heron, curlews and oystercatchers all sharing the same patch. If you’re wondering why there are no photos it’s because the new camera is not behaving itself, I think it might be operator error so I must read the instructions. |
