Lands End in our sights

I didn’t realise you need a maths degree to sail, but that’s how it feels right now. Newlyn’s tide is stated relative to Plymouth, the tidal strategy for rounding Lands End is relative to high water Dover and our destination, St Ives, is a drying harbour and is quoted relative to Milford Haven. All tide times are quoted in GMT so remember to add the hour for BST. Our journey also spans two weather forecast areas Just to complicate things a touch - at least it’s neaps so tidal streams are at their smallest. We wanted to leave at 0400 this morning but woke to thick fog so back to bed and re-plan for 1600. The sun’s shining now so it’s time for a stroll around Newlyn – as the harbour master said last night, as harbours go it’s a cracker. |
