Tue. Harlingen. Last day with Andy & Judy. Out on the bikes and did a big 20 mile circuit down along the dyke to Makkum for lunch and then inland through the Friesland farmland. Lovely timeless scenery with little canals and boats everywhere.

 

Wed. Barbara and Simon from Bristol, arrived midday by train from Amsterdam. Gave them the one hour Brompton tour of Harlingen and then set off for the Ijsselmmer lock.  Amazingly busy, this is peak Dutch holiday season!  Good natured mayhem in the huge entrance lock with forty boats crammed in and more waiting.  Once through we saw several boats lying peacefully at anchor in a little bay, so joined them and went in for a swim in 18.5 degrees.  Fresh water, lovely, no need to shower!
