Thur.
Lazy 29 mile passage from Simrishamn to Ystad, home town of Wallander. Hot and
sunny, no wind at all. Busy tourist town with cobbled streets, quite pretty,
but nothing special. Nice bike ride south along the coast.
Fri.
7am start for 35 mile passage to the Fasterbo Canal on the SW tip of Sweden.
Again hot and sunny with no wind. Interesting guest harbour right by the
lifting bridge, base for a big square rigger and a coastguard boat. Lots of
activity every hour when the bridge opens. Did a big bike ride around the
Skanor/Fasterbo peninsula on nice bike tracks. Astra was in Skanor in June 2008
with Jason, Derek and Pete Blackmore, very quiet back then, but absolutely
heaving now in high season with packed beaches.
Sat.
Took a 45 minute bus ride into Malmo, Swedens third city. A bit of a seedy
reputation. In Wallander, the drugs and crime gangs are all based in Malmo.
Quite a nice old town, rammed with tourists, market stalls and cafes and some
nice parks. Quick lunch and then took the bus back, looking out at all the
Wallander scenery. A weather front came through in the evening with F7/8 winds
for a brief period. High drama with boats scurrying in for shelter.
Sun.
Wind has gone, but it is raining! Andy and Judy Joss arrive later today, so it
is a shopping, passage planning and tidying the boat day. Tomorrow morning we
head for Denmark after a whole month in Sweden.
