We have about 85nm to go before we reach the mainland.
It is good that we have choosen a marina where we have already been and were we
can do everything necessary after a crossing, but most of all were we can have a
good sleep first.
What a day yesterday. We stopped the engine at 15u30 and
put the cruising chute (genakker/ assymetric) up but it just didn't stop. Whales
and dolphins untill the end of the day. First spotting dolphins followed by
beautifull whales that looked like black diveboats passing close by or
first spotting sprays at the horizon comming closer untill you could see the
beautifull creatures. We were spouilled the whole sunny day.
We kept the genakker the whole night up untill 05:00
this morning. Another small victory. We never sailed the assymetric during a
whole night. Now sailing close haul with full main and foresail because the wind
is turning to much north.
Again a big thank you to the Lunni family who is
supporting us with weatherinfo. I once saw a bumpersticker: 'boat
people are better people'. I think there is some truth in that
saying.
Today we are celebrating the birthday of our oldest, 12
and also the 1 year anniversairy of our travel. Although the celebration
is limited to self made cake because at the same time we are working our way
trough the traffic lane, we zoom in on the AIS because the ships don't all fit
on the screen. At least 11 or 12 at the same time in a continuous stream. We
have passed the first outer lane with ships going south and are now entering the
second lane with ships going north. Than we have relative rest in the traffic
seperation zone to continue later in the afternoon with the last, inner lane.
We zijn bezig aan het laatste stukje van de laatste
grote oceaanoversteek. Tot nu toe hebben we chance dat er meer wind is dan
voorspeld en dat we goed vooruit gaan waar het zo druk is van de zeeschepen.
Nadat we voorbij de "bocht" zijn, gaan we het laatse stuk rustig aan doen,
misschien rekken we het nog tot morgenvroeg om niet in het donker te moeten
aankomen. Alhoewel dat we net hier tussen alle rotsen vorig jaar voor het eerst
in het donker in een jachthaven aan kwamen. Daarmee dat we weten dat het te doen
is, alleen zijn we nu een klein beetje meer moe.
