Getting Sorted

The relief when we reread the blog this morning was palpable as we were well on our way through our second Bob sized gin and tonic when we wrote it and we couldn’t quite remember what we had said let alone what pizzas we ordered for supper.  I think we got away with it.
We woke with somewhat befuddled brains and had a very sensible day putting things away, we are looking a lot less like a rummage sale today, having the replacement water maker installed by Lawrence with his magnificent moustache (it really is a competition winner), the macerator pump replaced and the water maker electrics fitted.  We then filled the cans with petrol and unusually had the fuel dock virtually to ourselves except for a most interesting Argentinian who told us haltingly in a spaghetti western Mexican accent how ridiculously stupid his government was, apparently if he were to return to Argentina with his boat he would be imprisoned, the reason was unclear but the madness of it obvious.  I then made Bob go to two supermarkets in quick succession, not a very popular occupation, but it meant that we are now burgeoning with life’s essentials, fruit and veg, fruit and fibre cereal and a cupboardful of beer, we can’t face more G&Ts today.  Bob then thought he would flush the newly installed water maker, as required before use, and was somewhat bad tempered to find water spurting from orifices that it shouldn’t.  Lawrence, and his splendid moustache, was sharply recalled and said orifices restored to rights.
A chap from along the way came and asked for a book swap as he was heading off to Trinidad and lacking in unread materials and we had a splendid yachting tale swap as well, with reminiscences of the rope shredding swell at Mindelo, which we are getting much better at with a bit of practice.  We managed to offload a rather dull Raymond Chandler off on him and I, somewhat reluctantly, let him have Cloud Atlas but he wouldn’t take the schmaltzy Love of My Life, we can’t think why.
The plan is to have another day of getting completely sorted, Sunday at the Jazz Festival on Pigeon Island and then head off south on Monday towards Grenada. We will keep you posted.
