"Whitehouse Bay, St Kitts - 25th March"

We set off for towards St Kitts after breakfast with the idea that we would go into the Marina at Bassterre.  We had a pleasant sail, the wind was behind us and we cruised along under mainsail alone.

As we approached Bassterre we called the Marina several times, but did not get a reply.  We thought that we would anchor outside the marina if we could not get in, but when we arrived and saw how the yachts at anchor were being tossed about we decided that we did not want to anchor there.  We approached the marina cautiously and called them up again for about the sixth time, but still did not get a reply, a glimpse into the marina showed that the fuel dock was lined with extra large catamarans and we were not sure if we went in whether or not we could turnaround as the marina did not look very large on the chart.  In the end we aborted the idea and decided that we would head south again and anchor in one of the pretty bays we had passed by.  Although I needed to do some shopping, we had sufficient food to manage for a day or two.  We made our way to Whitehouse Bay and found a free buoy which we picked up.  Soon Whisper's awning was up and I was enjoying a swim in this quiet haven and feeling pleased that we had not gone into Bassterre after all.  We can stay here and if necessary go back to Nevis to "Clear Out" and do our shopping before heading on up to Saba.   That is, I was enjoying my swim until I saw a huge fish about three feet long swimming below me.  I was not sure what sort of fish it was, but I remembered seeing pictures of that shaped head before and knew that it's mouth was full of teeth!  Fortunately, I was next to the boarding ladder and quickly half way up it.  I called to Noel who was on life guard duty!  He confirmed that it was a Barracuda and that they did not attack humans.  I wondered if the Barracuda knew that?
