"Long Passage - 24 November"

We are 100 miles from our 3/4 mark on the chart.  The past couple of days average speed has been a little slower than previously.  We had a spell in the doldrums which was a most unpleasant motion and very noisy with slapping sails so we started the iron horse and ran it for an hour or too which not only kept us moving, but cooled the fridge and the daily beer ration!

Eventually, the wind came back round from the East putting it behind us. The boys then had a lot of fun rigging the twin headsails and once more we were back on course. Needless to say in the middle of the night the wind shifted around to the South.  Once again the sleeping crew were roused for more activity in taking down the foresail, removing the pole from the staysail and hoisting the mainsail. We are now on a broad reach, on course for St Lucia!

We plan to change from our 3/4 mark on the GPS to our final mark of St Lucia during Happy Hour this evening.  We really will be on count down then and our spirits, although they are most definitely NOT low, they will most certainly be lifted.  It is a very long passage.
