"Jolly Harbour - 18th March"

All tasks to prepare Whisper for an early morning start tomorrow were completed by lunch time, with the exception of collecting the laundry and settling any outstanding electric and water fees.  Things never go quite to plan!  The laundry was not ready at 2pm but would be ready at 5pm! As we wanted to leave the electric on until the morning, we would have to pay for another days mooring fees if we leave before 8am or we can stay until after 8am and pay for the utilities and only then if we have used more than our daily allowance!  That is ok we thought, we will leave as soon as the meters have been read.  We then went back to collect the laundry at 5pm.  It was not ready and I was told by two rather stressed looking ladies, that the gas had not arrived.  "The gas has not arrived?", I repeated, thinking that I must have misheard.   "Yeah, we be 'ere til 8pm, da gas be 'ere in 20 minutes, you cum back later". The penny dropped, these enormous dryers were run on propane not electricity.  I explained that it was not possible to come back later, as we were going out for the evening.  I asked what time they opened in the morning and when told 8am, I replied that I would come back in the morning and that they could then go home earlier.  "Thank you darlin', see you in da mornin' sweetheart!" they  called after me.  Chuckling to ourselves we decided that as we could not leave the marina until after 8am, nor get the laundry until 8am, we might a well leave purchasing the bag of ice to help keep the fridge cool until the morning and then we could also get fresh bread from the supermarket too!  Come to think of it, this new plan sounds good, as if it gets too late, we can always anchor in the bay and leave early the next morning.  What it is not to be in a hurry!  Caribbean life is growing on us more and more!

Amanda and Dean had invited us for a last bar-b-que together as they will be heading home on Wednesday.  We spent a lovely evening with them and come back to Whisper laden with extra goodies for our ships supplies as they had over catered for their stay.  They also very kindly gave us a lift in their buggy, always fun hurtling through the dark backwards into the night!  Thank you both for a lovely evening and our very best wishes for your future together.

"Morris Bay - 19th March"

We arrived at the launderette a little after 8am and were greeted with "Good mornin darling, sweetheart, honeybunch!" I wasn't sure if this was directed at Noel or myself or whether or not the endearments were to be divided between us both.  Our charming rotund West Indian lady then held up a pair of Noels underpants and giggling said that she had omitted to wash them finding them in the bottom of the bag.  "I was goinna wash dem now ana put dem in you bag, whatta time yer goin?".  I told her not to worry I would do them.  "Yer sure now?" I assured her that it was not a problem as she grabbed a small carrier bag and stuffed them into it before putting them in the bag with the clean washing!  She did not have any change, so Noel told her to keep it and use it towards the next bottle of gas.  Hoots of laughter irrupted as we said our good-byes and left her cheerfully attending to her next 'darlin' customer.

Our destination is Nevis, which is 40 miles away, at an average speed of 5 knots it will take us 8 hours.  By the time we were ready to leave t would be dark before we arrived.  We decided to leave our berth after lunch and anchor outside Jolly Harbour in Morris Bay, this way we will be able to leave tomorrow morning after an early breakfast.
