On Wednesday I went to get X Rays done on my back so I could check progress. I had one of the most amazing unbelievable experiences i have ever had.

Freestyle Alee took me unannounced and with no appointment to Bankok Phuket Hospital in Phuket town.

We pulled up at the door to be met by one of several porters. Over he came to open the door and asked what was the problem. I told him what I wanted and he carefuuly helped me out of the car and guided me inside where he explained to and passed me over to a pre-registration assistant who showed me how to fill in the Registration form. He then brought me over to the registration desk where all my details were entered on the system and a digital photgraph taken to attach to my record. I was given my patient ID card. I stood up and there was a nurse there to take me to the orthapeadic department. I sat down and had a cold drink. Five minutes. Nurse comes over and takes me to a consultation room and views my previous XRays. Confirms she would like me to see the Orthapaedic surgeon. Back to the waiting room. Backside barely warms seat. Taken to Orthapaedic Surgeon who calls up my patient record on the PC in front of him and views my previous XRays. He examines me and asks a few questions. He confirms that new XRays can and should be done. I am taken by a nurse to the XRay department. I am given some gown etc to put on and walk straight in to the XRay room and they do the two requested shots. Back to the waiting room to wait for the images to develop. Then Consultation number two with the Orthapaedic surgeon comparing previous XRays and the new ones and examining me. He explained his diagnosis, and answers my questions. I am asked if I want CD or hard copy XRays. Hard copy was requested. I waited a for ten minutes for additional copies to be produced. During this time two, not one but two nurses came to me and apologised for the wait and one went running - yes I know its a health and safety risk and she should have put on a hard hat before doing a risk assessment, but she was an adult and appeared to have her own brain. So she ran to get my XRays and presented them to me and guided my to the cashier.

Total time taken from start to finish. You will never believe this I know.
SEVENTY FIVE MINUTES.

The fact that this was a private hospital has nothing whatsoever to do with things. It was organised efficient and totally focussed on patient needs. Oh yes and the bill..... £26 and I didn't get MRSA.

Because it was thoroughly enjoyable and a pleasure to watch an efficient patient oriented machine at work, I think I will go back again tomorrow. I'm not sure what to have done. Trish suggests a Mouth Reduction might be good value all round.

The bad news about all of this though is that the surgeon said it may take up to a year for my back to completely heal .."not six months" says I ... "possibly six months ..... but more likely a year" says he. "OK, but can I sail after 8 weeks?" I asked. "It may be possible ........ if you are very careful" I'm sure that's what he said anyway.

At the end of the day I shall just have to make the decision myself. In the meantime I will get as fit as I can and wait until the last minute before deciding if I give myself the green light. As well as trying to prepare myself the detailed work on preparing the boat for a possible 13,000 nautical mile run is well underway.
