Rhiann Marie - Round the World

Having cast off from Southampton after many years of planning and quitely patting myself on the back for all the expert meticulous attention to detail I realised after rounding Ushant and entering Biscay proper that in fact while I had 157 paper charts of the world in fact I had only brought one of my electronic charts which had run out by then. Anyway no problem as we had plenty other methods of navigation (principally keep the land to your left!). This was a small detail, perhaps understandable, with all the other things needing done before departure BUT arriving at Gibraltar 36:08N 005:21W on the evening of Thursday 1st all my many years of planning seemed irrelavant as I realised with horror that I was planning to arrive in Gibraltar with a boat registered in Cayman Islands and I did not have any Boat Papers which were all in the post to my home address from our agent handling the registration in Cayman. This could be very tricky. Luckily the customs were handled by the local marina office so between ship under construction certificates and insurance and everyones passports we were able to avoid jail until the morning when I got the papers sent by e-mail.
That would have been a major embarrassment - narrowly avoided. Anyway now all papers are in order and aboard.
Having seen the apes in Gibraltar and completed most of the outstanding jobs we are all going home to catch up on a few days business and the girls and some friends are coming down to Gibraltar at the end of the week for a couple of weeks cruising before setting off for the Canaries. We shall have some guest contributors to the blog from time to time - so look out for some other authors over the next few months.
Oh! - you may have wondered what PPPPP means - Poor Preparation means Pxxs Poor Performance - I better get my act together with the planning if I can head off without my electronic charts and my boat papers!
