11 hours later we entered Mooloolaba in the dark. Thank God for chartplotters as the navigation lights were confusing as hell! We motored some way up the river past Minyama Island to the anchoring area and dropped the hook, hoping we were out of the channel and not too close to the many moored boats.

When we woke up we were surrounded by multi-million dollar houses all with private jetties and boats. What financial crisis? Someone forgot to tell these people! The places are unbelievable and most are surprisingly tasteful. We threw the $60 super dinghy in the water and went ashore for a look around and a swim. The waves off the Spit were perfect body-surfing waves, if a little dangerous. A few times I expected to be carted off with a spinal injury as they dumped with serious power if you got it wrong; I think this is where Haike and Mads warned us about! It was our first proper ocean swim since Great Keppel Island so we reveled in it and spent a few hours bodysurfing.

Next we decided to go for an explore down the Kawana Waters Canal as we knew there was a marina and shops down there. Really we just wanted to check out the boats and houses! We found the marina just in time as it started to rain. What a surprise, the restaurant was doing $1 oysters so obviously it was time for lunch. We wanted to dive the HMAS Brisbane, a wreck Gav and I dived a few years back but time was running out as we had a hard date to fly back to UK and we really wanted to anti-foul and get QM back to Sydney before then.

We decided we had cooked onboard enough over the last few weeks so we went ashore for a curry and a few beers at the RSL on the beach. Tomorrow we will be back at sea shortly before going into Moreton Bay (Brisbane), which has yet more navigational, shipping and tidal challenges!
