Well here we are making our way to New
Caledonia.
We have decided to skip the Loyalty Islands and
head straight to Noumea. We would both love to see the 3 islands but we
have realised that we can't do everything, plus we have some boat fixing
that takes priority before Akio and Gav join us. As New Caledonia is only 2 hrs
flight from Sydney we thought we could always head back this way at some point.
We have motored non-stop from about 15 miles out of
Santo, so in total nearly 50 hrs of motoring so far.... boring!!!! And we
still have a way to go.
We had a cracking first 2 hours, QM cruising along
at 8 knots on the beam. It felt so nice to have her sailing again after all
the motor-sailing we have had to do between the islands. Unfortunately that
wasn't to last for long.
After spending all our last Vanuatan pennies on a
gorgeous breakfast at Aore resort with Brad and Cat from 'Ghost' we left in
convoy for New Cal. It wasn't before long that Ghost (Hanse 47) had left us
in their wake....
The Pacific is like a mill pond so we are motoring
along at around 5.5 knots and have approximately 120nm to go until we reach
the Havannah Pass and then another 60nm until we reach the capital of
New Caledonia 'Noumea'. We have seen little wildlife, a few birds and that is
about it. No whales, no dolphins, just oily seas. And we haven't had a
nibble :-(
We are on our last few bits of fresh food as it
will all be taken in New Caledonia by Quarantine, they are pretty strict like
Australia so best to eat it all rather than have it confiscated! Mike is loving
the extra portions of bacon, cheese and eggs. Luckily they don't confiscate
beer!
Hopefully we should arrive in Noumea on Tuesday
evening.....
