We made it! We decided to risk the wrath of the
French Authorities (yes how scared are we?....) and made landfall at
about 9am local time today in Fatu Hiva. The most stunning island and unofficial
port of entry to the Marquesas and French Polynesia. Looks like we did 48 miles
too many on our 3000 mile crossing so we have room for improvement next
time! Needless to say after 19 or so days at sea, we were both very happy
to see the stunning outline of jagged peaks shrouded in cloud at first
light. We are anchored at Hanavave (Bay of Penises/Virgins depending on your
viewpoint) and it truly lives up to it's reputation as one of the most
stunning sights you will ever see. I am too tired to post any pics or try to
describe it so google it - it'll be worth it! We had a jungle hike this
afternoon up to a waterfall and went for a swim to try and keep awake - it's
absolutely stunning and no tourism to speak of
;-)
Anyhow, we will post some pics and write more soon.
A semi-stable bed calls... (even though it's howling with wind)
G'night.
