Foxy's Taboo - Jost Van Dyke

This was going to be our last full day sailing on this trip so we decided to stay out for the night. We left Nanny Cay early in the morning and headed for Jost Van Dyke. We had been told about a place called the bubbling pool close to Foxy's Taboo so that was to be our destination.

We sailed in low winds at a leisurely pace up to Jost Van Dyke island and found a mooring in the bay opposite Foxy's Taboo beach bar. Once everyone was ashore we followed a goat trail through the undergrowth and over a rocky mound to the ocean side of the rocks. We found a little sandy beach about 20 feet wide with a rocky pool in front of it. There was a narrow inlet where the waves crashed over the rocks and rushed through swirling rapidly around the pool. We were all so hot from our trek that we jumped into the cool water.

Soon the kids, and Nicky, had found that they could sit on the rocks at the inlet and when the waves were large enough hey would lift them up as they rushed in and throw anything in the way into the pool.

We could not get Nicky out of the water and he and the kids spent and hour counting the waves trying to predict the big surges.

The day was a scorcher and soon we all decided we would head back to Foxy's Taboo for lunch. Gillian was straight on the rum punch and was soon wondering why her new spec's were out of focus!

Louis the waiter in Foxy's taboo was a bit of fun and decided to call everything on the menu chicken. He was a tall guy with a happy smile permanently on his face and he looked after us well. After lunch we all decided we wanted to stay out at anchored for the night so we went back around the headland and into the bay with the original Foxy's bar in the corner. This is a traditional Caribbean beach shack and we had been here a week earlier for lunch but it rained a lot that day. They have live music on each night so this was going to be the place for us to have our last nights party for the holiday.

When we arrived at the bay we found that there were still problems with the anchored winch so we dropped the anchored by hand and settled the boat. Andy and Rory snorkelled out above the anchored to make sure it had taken a firm hold. Them it was last minute swims for those who wanted to go into the water before we headed for the shore.

We settled into the bar early to catch some tunes by an old timer who was also a bit of a comedian. Then the acts changed and dancing band arrived. We had decided early that we were going to have a final blow out tonight so dinner started with Champaign. This got all the girls into the spirit of the evening and no sooner had they finished their main courses and they were on the dance floor.

Bab's, Gillian and Sarah took the kids back to the boat at 11.00pm and the rest of us stayed to close the bar. When we eventually made it back to the boat on the second dingy we were in for a further surprise as three naked ladies jumped off the boat in front of us. This started a midnight swimming session for the adults that would have opened a few eyes on our neighbouring boats.

We had certainly had a fantastic last night at sea which was further reinforced by the number of heavy heads the next morning.
