Subject: Further Progress

Since leaving Dartmouth on 13 June, Malcolm and I have had some fantastic sailing in all sorts of conditions and made Plymouth that night. Only disappointment was a vegetable curry ashore, which comprised potatoes, rice and little else.

On the afternoon of 14th we had a very choppy run to Fowey, but found a secluded spot up river for a good night’s kip, ready or face the next Fay’s sail to Newlyn, a wonderfully quaint fishing port with a great pub overlooking the harbour.

Finally on 16 th we made a dash for Land’s End in a SW 4 which rose to F6 later on, having passed west of the Longships. The voyage was epic, with increasing wind strength and lumpy moderate seas which was a  surging experience. Eventually we furled in the Genoa as we sped along precariously reaching 10.2 knots at one stage, completing the leg under mainsail alone with 2 reefs at 7 knots!

Sadly Malcolm left after a wet and windy few days. We had some laughs and sang heartily.  Sue joined me with our dog in Padstow for a couple of days, which was great, and I leave tomorrow morning for Lundy Island or Ilfracombe on passage for Milford Haven.

So far, so good and the money keeps rolling in to help the Prostate Cancer Research Centre.  Long May this trend continue.

Pictures will follow once I have mastered the technology.
