The first day we'd done 'an overnight' to make a good start, but from then on it would be daysailing through the complex of the Great Barrier Reef, with plenty of shipping to deal with as well. We anchored every night.

So, after an initial overnight passage from Bundaberg we would often 'up-anchor' leaving at first light to maximise the distance achieved, so avoiding any tricky night navigation. However me made our way leisurely through the famous Whitsunday Islands, and treated ourselves to lunchtime stops too!

After anchoring the night off Airlie Beach we went through the Gloucester Passage to the anchorage outside small laid-back town of Bowen.
