Another beautiful starry night. The seas built
during the night to 4-5 meters but the holes got fewer as the waves started
following us. We haven't seen another boat in real life or on the AIS for
two days now. AIS has a range of about 20-30 miles so we thought we might
see the ARC+ leaders catching us up (we must be going too fast for them).
We are still averaging 7.3 knots for the first 5 days!
This is now the longest leg we have sailed!
Overtaking the 883nm from Lanzarote to Cabo Verde. The shift patterns are
working well. Three hours on 9 hours off. Last night for example
Iain did 7pm to 10pm; Stuart did 10pm to 1am; Hector did 1am to 4am and Paul did
4am to 7am. Tonight we all move round by three hour so I'll be doing the
7pm to 10 pm shift and Stuart gets the graveyard shift 1am to 4am.
Our fruit hammock is depleting nicely, on-target to
completely disappear by the Caribbean. Our Cape Verde bananas bask serenely on a
towel on the sofa, slowly turning from green to yellow. The bag of "lemons" that
we bought in Mindelo turned-out to be yellow passion-fruit, which don't do much
for scurvy, but go nicely with yoghurt at lunchtime.
Last night's pizza was excellent so we are pleased we
have another 4 in the freezer for two more quick, bad weather
meals.
The main discussion of the day has been dinner tonight
and Hector volunteered to make Chili from scratch. that sent skips diving into
his vast wine locker to find a suitable wine.
