I could be in the south of France not the Pacific idyll, although there are all those elements too! We arrived around 11am, the island very similar to those of the Marquesas, High wooded and steep slopes, From basic services on the Marquesas we have all the facilities of a major city. The rustic charm is missing of course but in its place a shoppers delight, modern facilities, the marina we are in, Quay de yachts Papeete, is new and not officially open, many of their systems like VHF comms are not running yet, nor the washing machines, damn! (10 minute trek with 3 heavy bags for washing across town). The capital of French Polynesia, most of the population (180000 out of 200000 live in the city). It is busy bustling place but we have yet to really explore the town.
Practical boat maintenance and ordering spare parts is our first concern for the moment.
