Dear Family and Friends, 4th May 2015 Here are some of the scenery of Hiva Oa. Baie de Taaoa. Mount Temetiu brooding in the cloud. Poor Alan gets dragged around culture at every opportunity! The decorated posts are common on signs and in the communal halls. Traditional platform for the dead, built around a tree. When the loved one is reduced to bones they bury the head under a banyan tree and the rest of the bones in their sacred places. This is a smiling threesome! Stone female tiki is for the fishermen. This stone is down a woodland track and we would never have found it but for our guide. There are a surprising number of horses and these were roaming freely on the track. Typical scenery of north coast of Hiva Oa. More photos enroute. All our best, Lynne and Alan |
