According to the pilot, the Keyhole is said to be the hangout of a retired negro pirate and his harem in bygone years. Also two escaped convicts from Tasmania are thought to have make Middle Island their home.
The history of the island is that D'Entrecasteaux name Middle Island in 1792 since it is near the middle of the archipelago. Middle Island/Cape Arid is often used as a point of departure for crossing the Great Australian Bight. "Departing Cape Arid bound for Cape Catastrophe" Matthew Flinders can be thanked for these evocative names.
We are setting off across the bight tomorrow, hope the forecast comes good.
love from this lot of limpits!

PS I suspect this position will show that we traversed land; just to confirm we did indeed go round the top and east side, and didn't go overland!!
