Martinique.
We arrived here yesterday, following 6 hours of
lovely sailing. Much better conditions than on the West coast of Scotland.
Douglas went ashore to get our customs clearance, but they had shut at noon. So,
according to Bev, that made us illegal immigrants. How cool is that!! Not
to be put off by small legal matters, we went ashore anyway and had a
look at our port of Marin. We then cleaned the local Patisserie out of
croissants and pains au chocolat and feasted on them when we got back to the
boat.
Today, we travelled to Fort de France and spent
most of the day there. Martinique is not a bit like your average Caribbean
island. In this part of the island, there is a marked absence of tropical flora
and fauna, and more in the way of cultivated land. The island is also French and
the currency is the Euro. Douglas is enjoying winding the French up somewhat by
mentioning Admiral Sir Lord Nelson and the E.U. How typical!
We plan to set off again tomorrow after
breakfast for St. Lucia. The locals refer to it as Paradise, and the cry of "How
y'all doin in Paradise" is regularly shouted. We have included some photos of
our holiday but they are not in any particular order.
