JAMES STEWART: 3 January 1951 - 13 March 2012

I'm very sad to write that James died on Tuesday 13th March, peacefully at home as he wished.  Although the chemotherapy and his spirit held his cancer at bay for some time, we knew that it wasn't going to be able to cure him.   James very much hoped that his friends would try not to be too sad and instead would remember all the good times they spent with him.  I have some wonderful memories and James certainly felt that he had lived a very full life, and in the last few years achieved his dream of sailing Snow Leopard, a boat he had largely built himself, from Southampton to New Zealand.

James' approach to life is captured in the Mark Twain quote:

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do.

So throw off the bowlines.  Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails.

Explore, Dream, Discover"

James will be remembered for his vitality, his passion and enthusiasm, his insatiable curiosity about everything, his ability to find a good restaurant, and most of all, his infectious laugh.
