Peniche to Cascais
Cat-man-do

Peniche, Nice little town, myself and Peter arrived
(Robert sampling the rather good by all accounts local public transport)
and rafted up next to Ruby. Nice little town with the harbour shared with
the fishing fleet. The stunning boat "Bonkeoning" also in port with us. Lovely
little town and another evening sampling various alcoholic beverages ! Another
little town with nice little back streets and plenty of cafes/bars to explore. A
civic reception was held in Municipals buildings with the Mayor in attendance,
and a rather large buffet to tuck into. Good point...good food, Bad point.....no
Beer !! So after the formalities, a gang of us set off to sample the delights of
the local town, the local bars must wonder what the hell's hit them when a big
group of "yachties" descend on them for the evening, though I'm sure the bar
takings must be at least treble the usual ! The following morning and a good
weather forecast but an 11 o clock start though several yachts decided to make a
break for it early. The day dawned bright and sunny and the wind in the right
direction and off we went. We sailed over the line, no engine power and sailed
the whole way (hurray) Just a small hitch on the way when we managed to get
ourselves over a floating rope helpfully left directly in our path by one of the
local fisherman. Tragedy averted we managed to get off and continued on our way.
The winds weren't as good as we'd hoped but eventually managed to sail over the
finishing line in a very creditable.......last !
Into the Marina fuelled up with diesel and onto the
berth for the night. As usual we all congregated in a bar overlooking the boats
and plenty of "falling over juice" consumed into the wee small hours.
The marina here's probably the best we've been in
so far with the possible exception of Bayona, very modern and nice bars and
restaurants overlooking the berths. Another reception and prize giving tonight
with the local Mayor I believe then I would hazard a guess and say another
pretty late night to follow in the old town of Lisbon.
Thanks to all who've made comments on the
Blog, it's nice to know it's actually being read by someone. And thanks for
all the mail and texts supporting us in our little adventure, they're all
appreciated ......
People who sail yachts are often thought of as
Hurrah Henries, anyone with that impression should try a Rally like this one.
All down to earth people out for a laugh and willing to muck in and help anyone
in need.
A friend today said to me it sounds a bit like the
Gumball Rally on water. He's not that far off. Cheers Simon, we'll see you and
Charlotte next week mate.
And now by special request, a few words by
Peter.......
