The wind did get up after dark, but more importantly so did the waves and the anchorage became nigh untenable. Besides, the anchor started moving ever so slowly backwards in the vilolent pitching, so we raised it and went instead to anchor just west of Ile Saint Joseph, which was quieter. Then at around 8am set off for the entrance to the river and port of Korou. This is reminiscent of the east coast, being shallow - we went several miles in less than 4m of brownish water while still some way offshore - but it deepened out in the river proper where we are now anchored. It’s the weekend so most things are shut but there is at least a supermarket full of French goods. Several brands of pastis and a whole aisle devoted to wine!
