We spent a couple of days on Gomera, including cycling up a hill to the end of the road at a village called La Laja, and then on Thursday were joined by our friends Steve and Toni who came across by ferry from Tenerife. We took a taxi back to La Laja (25 mins rather than 2 hrs by bike) and went for a walk from there, right into the mountains climbing from about 550m to about 950m. Wonderful scenery but quite hard work! Fortunately a restaurant at the top where we fortified ourselves with grilled goat.

Then on Friday we set sail back to Tenerife and went direct to the marina at San Miguel at the extreme south of the island where we'd previously booked in for the 15th for a fortnight. But they also had a (possibly temporary) berth for us between now and the 15th. We then left Awelina for a couple of days to go and explore Tenerife while staying with Steve and Toni.

We got almost to the top of Mount Tiede (3717m) and the air was noticeably thin: slight exertion and we all felt dizzy. It was also cold at -2°C with some snow in gullies. We took a cable car so it wasn't an heroic climb! Pictures will be posted in a day or two.

We now have to do some more tidying up and making sure we can leave Awelina unattended for 10 days or so while back in the UK as we fly home at the end of the week.
