Sunday 5th October - Pulladobhrain

The forecasters are more and more strident about a south easterly storm due
soon, although Sunday dawned quite fine and dry with only a breeze from the
SW.
![]() Forecast for tonight: not a good time to be at sea in the NW of
Scotland!
In preparation James rowed out a second anchor (the Fortress) to the S, and
then a line to a tree to the SE, this latter being 140m long!
![]() After this there was nothing to do but wait – which could just as well be
done in the pub. The pub was at Clachan Bridge 20 mins walk away over the hill
across the island of Seil. Clachan Bridge is the famous ‘Bridge over the
Altantic’, and the pub, which is called ‘Tigh na Truish’ (Galeic for ‘the House
of the Trousers’) was vey snug and welcome.
![]() Seil Sound viewed from Clachan Bridge. Too shallow for us.
The gale did materialise eventually, but because of the trees to windward
of us it was never that violent and the line ashore held us remarkably well and
damped virtually all sheering. Better weather is forecast for tomorrow (Monday)
so hopefully we can push on then. |
