Hallo All,
We arrived in Salvador on 7th Feb where we spent about
eight days. It was Carnival time, so we had lots of fun , music and dance. The
lead up to the Carnival was electric and when the parades starrted there were
about 1.4 mil people dancing and clubing on the route, it was spectacular to
see. However, at about 3am,the first night, the noise was so incredible it felt
like the whole of Salvador was about to explode.
So leaving that behind, on Monday 16th of Feb we set off
on the 690 nm for the Island ofFernando De Nohorona.
This beautiful Brazilian island off the North east ,which
is a National Park, was pleasantly laid back and chilled following the
hustle and bustle of Salvador.
We spent three days here exploring and Donnacha and
Cameron managed to swim with some turtles. Its an expensive place to visit and
there are only a max of 1,500 visitors allowed to visit at any one time. There
is also a large turtle research centre on the island. There are no hotels,
Margaret and Derry stayed 3 nights in local accom called a Pusada, what a great
experience, 3 nights of air conditioning, lovely people, not to mention the
parties.
So yesterday morning 11am we set sail for Fort Elaza,
mainland, where we will check out from Brazil and head for our final long
passage of 1600 nm to Grenada in the Carribean. We hope to celebrate St Patricks
day here on the 17th March all going well, Then its just a short run to St Lucia
and the Finish of World Arc 2014/2015. on the 11th of April
