This morning we weighed anchor at 0730 and proceeded under motor in calm conditions towards the Swansea Channel. We entered the channel at 0805 and wound our way through its twists and turns much more confidently than when we entered the Lake. At 0840 we were just off the bridge so, with twenty minutes to kill, we picked up a public mooring. At 0855 we slipped the mooring and made a few circles while the bridge opened promptly at 0900. From there we motored out into the open ocean where we set mainsail and the code zero, heading South back towards Sydney, close reaching to the light WSW breeze.

Thus far we have made reasonable progress, making good an average speed of 2.5 knots since shutting down the BRM. But now the wind has faded to less than a zephyr and we are barely making steerage way. The forecast is for the wind to fill in from the North later this evening, so we are probably going to have to be content with drifting for several hours before making any progress again. Still, as long as Sylph can keep her bows pointing roughly in the right direction and the sails are not slatting too much, I am happy.
