I visited my old friend Max in hospital yesterday, the main reason for my sail up to Lake Macquarie. Clearly it is not appropriate to discuss someone else’s health in a public forum but suffice to say he is on the mend and hopefully will be home soon.
Today I enjoyed sailing with Chris’s friend, Ed, on his Adams 8, Windy Point,
in a race around the lake. The boat is light and fast, suited to the light airs of the day, and Ed is an excellent sailor. We only had three crew: I helmed, Ed did main sheet and tactician, and the third crew, Nat, did the jib and foredeck. A little single-handed
J24, Jam, gave us a run for our money but with the added advantage of a nice asymmetrical spinnaker we came in well ahead of everyone, crossing the line with the gun. Nonetheless, on corrected time we still came in second to
Jam. Well done Jam. It was a fun and satisfying sail with a relaxed and competent crew.
Tomorrow I will head back to Sydney. We will get underway at 0730 to make a bridge opening I have booked for 0900. The forecast is for light winds winds gradually freshening out of the North overnight. It will likely be a slow trip back but we have plenty of
time.
All is well.
