We continued to make good time in the easing breeze yesterday afternoon and evening, arriving at the entrance to Backstairs Passage at 2100. From there we sailed along the Northern side of Kangaroo Island, rounding Kangaroo Head and entering Eastern Cove at 0300. We hardened onto the breeze, close reaching down the Eastern side of the Cove into a sheltered anchorage a few hundred meters off the beach where, at 0140, we rounded into the wind, handed sail and let go the anchor in six meters of water. Once Sylph had her cable, I did a quick tidy up and turned in all standing for what remained of the night.
At 0500 I was up again to catch the tide into American River. At 0520 the anchor was aweigh and we motored the two and a half miles across the Cove to the entrance of the River. Once inside we found Wayne was waiting, ready for us to come alongside Ambler. Once the two boats were securely lashed together we retired down below into Ambler's saloon for a cup of tea and a good chin wag. We have now spent most of the forenoon sharing our respective stories since last we met. This afternoon the plan is to head ashore for a leg stretch and to have a look around the small settlement and then head back on board for dinner.
I intend to remain alongside Ambler overnight and have another early start tomorrow morning, once again to catch the morning high tide, and then to complete the final leg of our voyage back to Adelaide.
All is well.
