From New York we had a pleasant overnight stop
at Port Washington before sailing on to Mammaroneck, home of the Derektor
boat yard, where for a hefty fee they were willing to repair the damage done
when in a moment of inattentiveness which was foolish and for which he
will forever regret, John sailed headlong into a 10ft channel marker at 7
knots. We had to fly home for a week and upon our return the repair wasn't
quite upto scratch, but the true professionals that they were, the yard had no
qualms about re doing the job. Unfortunately this meant that in total the
boat spent nearly three weeks in the yard.
We heaved a sigh of relief as we cast off our
mooring lines and headed towards Block Island and Cape
Cod.
