A two night passage from Beaufort saw us
arrive in the Chesapeake along with all the big container ships just after
dawn.  Weary after our passage we soon pulled in to a small anchorage a few
miles from the Chesapeake entrance where we were
delighted to see more Ospreys nesting on the channel markers.

We sailed over to the west side of the bay and
into the Rappahannock river and up as far as Urbanna, where we had arranged to
haul the boat out of the water at the local boatyard.  We spent the
next few days cleaning the bottom of the boat and antifouling (that's the royal
use of the word 'we'!).  Whilst we were there Urbanna had a mini heat wave
with soaring temperatures up to 95 degrees and over 80% humidity, needless to
say, the boat was like living in a sweat box and  with all the flies
buzzing round (and biting) John I was beginning to fear for his
sanity.  One extremely hot and humid night he spent over an hour sat up in
bed spraying fly spray and swatting the beasts before going to sleep
in the Saloon with the big fan.  I woke in the morning on a bed of
dead flies -nice!

![]() The guys at the boatyard, Henry and David, were
extremely helpful, even offering to lend us a vehicle, insurance fears led
us to decline this kind offer, so Henry's son Kyle became our chauffeur.
We found generosity everywhere we turned - another local guy called Alan (a boat
mechanic and crabber), gave us two huge boxes of cooked crabs to devour.
Unfortunately the Mexican crab pickers did not come with the box of crabs so we
spent several hours, doing a very poor job of crab picking.  Still, we
really enjoyed the crab cakes.  We soon completed all our jobs on the to do
list and were keen to move on up the Chesapeake to Annapolis.
