Re: La Gomera

Sorry we haven't updated the blog for a while; we've been a bit hectic
collecting a delivery of solar panels and other spares which we took over to
Las Palmas to fit prior to our impeding departure date to the other side.
More of our las Palmas adventures later.

Our journey picks up again in La Gomera, we liked the look of the island
so decide to explore it further. First day we decided to hire a car but
they had all gone, so we spent a lazy day around the town and in the
marina. We then cooked up the rest of our huge tuna for two Aussies that
we'd met up in Santa Cruz and who happened to be at the same marina
again. Next day we managed to hire a car and set off to explore the
mountainous interior, before long the already narrow, steep, winding roads
became even more narrower, steeper and more windy but were surfaced with
crazy paving. Just when we thought we'd gone the wrong way we came across
cars coming the other way on a road which had now turned into a dirt
track. At this height on the island everywhere was swathed in cloud and a
light drizzle fell constantly, never the less we got out for a walk along
the thickly wooded hillside paths. We followed some Swedes (the people
not the veg) into a mountainside restaurant where all 12 of them ordered a
full cooked meal. Having just received such a large order the woman at the
counter seemed a little stressed and was very rude so John matched her
rudeness before marching out of the door. After lunch, which we had at a
different roadside spot, we drove across the top of the island, before
descending below the cloud to Valley Grande Rey where we went for a swim
off the sandy beach and enjoyed a beer whilst watching the Spindly legged
German hippies go by. John occasionally watching the topless bathers on the
beach. We then wound our way back to the marina through thick cloud, rain
and wind.

We left the marina early and sailed back round to Valley Grand Rey where we tied up
against the harbour wall and got our bikes out and rode to the beach.so that
we could spend another few hours body surfing. We left early the next morning back to
Candelaria, Tenerife finishing the day in big waves, these head seas
slowed our progress and we arrived after dark. We then had to go up to
Santa Cruz so took the Titsa (local bus) back to the marina where the
solar panels should have been waiting. After more than a few hours
chasing the delivery man, john's new friend (man at ipod store) finally
tracked him down and our packages finally arrived after dark. The next 24
hours of my life where then taken up by trying to get my new ipod touch to
be recognised in itunes. The thing nearly went overboard more than once!
Eventually genius John, ignoring my scoffing at his usual computer
illiteracy, looked on an internet forum and found the solution.
