Throughout our trip up the Bahamas we have been
living the clean and virtuous lifestyle, we decided we needed a change, we
needed some vice in our lives, so we headed to Miami! As we closed the
American coast the skyscrapers and high rise buildings of downtown
Miami looked like the New York skyline and signalled the biggest
cultural change since our trip began.
 The whole east coast of America is served by the
'Intra Costal Waterway (ICW)', which is a series of lagoons, canals, rivers and
levees which would enable one to sail (or more likely motor) from southern
Florida to North of New York on inland sheltered waters. We entered
Government Cut, the main inlet at Miami and motored inland then North to enter
the lagoon system immediately behind Miami Beach. We anchored here amidst
Miami's waterfront properties, home to the rich and famous - we invited Jenny
Lopez aboard for drinks but she declined as she had a hair
appointment. We spent four days sightseeing around Miami
visiting the Art Deco area, the nudist beach on South beach, where despite
significant efforts John saw only a handful of topless bathers, and we spend a
rather drunken evening drinking two for one cocktails in the fashionable Lincoln
Road watching the parade of freaks, gays and mutton dressed up as lamb
which walked continuously by. The
galleries and shops entertained us after months of tropical island where there
is little to do on land. We had our first taste of American food portions
and when thoroughly fed and watered we decided to move on up to Fort
Lauderdale.
