If you thought Miami was home to the rich and famous then Fort Lauderdale is home to the ridiculously rich. Once again we entered the ICW from the ocean and proceeded up the canal system up to central Fort Lauderdale.  They have cut a series of canals in a gridwork so that they can then build thousands of waterfront properties, the opulence is staggering, we saw one property with a 130ft super yacht and a sister 108ft super yacht moored up outside of it's 250ft waterfront, the boats must amount to at least $40million and the house another $20million, what was amazing was that this wasn't the exception, we saw house after house with a 60ft + boat moored up outside.

We were able to tie up on a mooring buoy at the municipal marina amidst all this luxury, at a very reasonable price, so we did all the laundry, had lots of showers and filled up our water tanks.  We took our folding bikes ashore and explored Fort Lauderdale.  We also picked up a new steering part that we had had shipped.  It was also here that we picked up a large bucket with a screw top lid to act as our portaloo/holding tank that is needed to comply with US coast guard regulations.  John wanted to use the bucket in anger so that it would appear more realistic if the coast guard boarded us to check us out, luckily I won the day and we settled for just putting blue rinse in.  Thankfully we are not sailing round with a large bucket of Johns showings.
