 We arrived Peniche late afternoon.  This is
predominently a fishing port and the pilot book warned of a loud siren that
signalled the return of every fishing boat and subsequent fish
auction.  This was sounded every time a boat arrived up until about
midnight but fortunately we could sleep through it.  The pilot also warned
of the wash from fishing boats which blatantley flout the 3 knot speed limit;
the wash from a 100 tonne trawler travelling at 10 knots in the harbour nearly
ripped our cleats off.  The small marina had limited pontoons so we rafted
up 3 deep against our Scottish friends who we had met at several spots since
leaving la Coruna.
The town was pleasant with an old fort  right
next to the sea.  Obviously a good place to eat as there were a massive
amount of seafood restaurants. Our meat pizzas were delicious!
After making a new windvane and having the
compulsory siesta (now the weather is a little warmer), we took in the towns
highlights then sat in a bar.
Next day we had an early start, for us.  It
was a 9 o'clock get away.  We sailed south for Lisbon with variable wind
strength so some sailing and some motoring.  Alas, the self steering gear
is still not working properly.
