Excellent sailing through the night. Mostly 20/25
knots of wind and often 8+knts over the ground, periodically lit by
brilliant moonlight. The sea's up and down a bit, an hour of easy steeringi the
groove, and then a lumpy spell, still with refreshing dobs of water. Daytime is
perfect - a lttle lighter wind just under 20, but loppn along at 7/ 7.5 knots By
the time this goes we'l have less thean 500 miles of the 840 to cover. The watch
system is excellent - two hours on the helm and six off with two one hour dog
watches to alter the timing by 2 hours a day. Within that there's a cleaning and
cooking rota. It's all hand steering that gives 6 hours of standing excercise.
500 to go just clocked up and beards geting scratchy. Knot of the day - climbers
double figure of 8. Nautical term - Futtock shrouds -so there!
THumping along at night
