Sunday 10th May

Well, here we are alongside a wall in the quaintly historic town of St Georges. The breeze filled in majorly from the South West this morning, and we tanked the last 90 or so miles up to Bermuda. The whole trip rom the Virgins has taken just on 5 days, rather less than the outline plan of 7. Bermuda’s a bit of a surprise – more visible from a distance than you’d expect from a coral atoll, strange, rather twee Miami style housing on the way in, and then a large lagoon with period buildings along the waterfront where we’re moored. The entrance is quite narrow, though deep as it takes large cruise ships, and we’ve been closely monitored by the harbour guys from 25 miles out and then subject to a close interrogation on the VHF about our credentials. It did mean that the clearing in process was very rapid, as most of our details had been pre-supplied. Anyway, here we are about to go ashore following a small something on board (first for 5 days), so more reports of St Georges on the morrow.

Knot of the day: Clove hitch, Nautical term: Thole pin
