Prickly Pear Bay, Grenada
Monday 19th
Plenty of stuff to keep us busy on the boat:
recaulking hatches where th rubber has perished, sorting the watermaker,
greasing all the fittings etc etc. As always with boats there's go and bad news.
Good news: the new saloon and deck covers look excellent, and the previous
exotic plaid no consigned to the deep, or the Grenada equivelant. Not so good
news - the rudder stock may be suffering from electrolysis and need replacing
which would be a largish job. We were alerted to it as it's happened to
Australian fellow ARCers Warren and Vicky's Contest. Anyway, we've lined up a
surveyor and we'll haul quickly on Wednesday to check it out - better here than
mid Atlantic.
The weather was a bit mixed over the weekend, and
in fact on Saturday, it poured down several times to the extent that 10 gallons
of water were retrieved from the dinghy and relocated into the tanks. Here has
been very little wind though soit's been HOT, especially when the hatches re
batened down in the showers. Prickly Bay's a great base with a number of bars
and restaurants, plusboat facilities, and also a good spot fro which to explore
the island. Morning excercise has been fairly consistent in an effort to burn
off Christmas excess, though it's probably a futile gesture.
More later in the week on the great rudder
plot.
