I know you should be careful what you wish for, but
could there be anything more frustrating than being 700 miles away from Fatu
Hiva, and having the wind completely die on us; and by die I mean we are now
doing less than 3 knots! So, here's the score...a cyclone a long way away from
us (good news) has sucked away all our wind (bad news). This means that our aim
of 21 days (good news) is now going to be more like 24 days (bad news). Lest we
disappear into a mire of badness though, perhaps we should consider the
following:
a. We are on our boat in the pacific
b. The sun is shining
c. The sea is completely flat
d. We have series 1 and 2 of 'Lost' on
board!
On the basis of this, and after mathmatical
mutterings, the 'goods' are still outweighing the 'bads' and thus the crew
are smiling (albeit through gritted teeth)
Other topics of interest so far...You would think
that doing night watches would get easier over time. Wrong. It seems my body is
completely rebelling now against getting up in the middle of the night, having
only had 3 hours sleep. And really, who can blame it. This whole cruising thing
would be lovely if we did not have night watches to do. I'm with Eric Hiscock on
this one. He and his wife, whilst cruising, used to go to bed at 2100 and then
wake up at 0700 to a fresh new day, never the wiser as to any ships that might
have passed them in the night! Perfect. Lots of sleep and no stress about other
boats.
Anyway, enough ramblings. Pray for 10 knots more
wind please. Not less and certainly not more, or stress levels might rise, and
we can't have that!
Till the next time.
Lots of love
