We woke at 7am and jumped rightout of bed (well i did!) ready for
our big adventure exploring Guadeloupe and the largest waterfall in the
Eastern Caribbean. W e dinghy to shore, pop into the local boulangerie to get
breakfast, pain au raisin and pain au chocolat, yum yum. Get in the hire car and
off we go.....we drive along beautiful rainforest and endless banana plantations
and then we arrive at Chutes des Carbet (waterfall of Carbet), well at the
car park. We have a choice to see the first and highest waterfall which is a
1hr 30 mins uphill, or waterfall two which is 10mins away or waterfall
three which is an hour away. Well, we are here now so we may aswell
see the biggest and the best!!!
We hiked and we hiked and we hiked - it got steeper and steeper and
steeper and still there was no sound of waterfall one....it must be just around
the corner shorly. Around a few more corners we finally get to the most
beautiful and awesome sight....the falls drop 115 metres, and it looks like
they are coming out of the sky. We are in the clouds so it all looks really
eerie. We will post photos as soon as we can so you can see it!
After getting over this sight we hiked down - by this time it was
pouring with rain so we were grateful for the shelter of the rainforest. Despite
the weather we deicided to continue to waterfall number two. The viewing
platform was great but we wanted to get in some of the pools that were below the
fall. This meant crossing a DANGER barrier but on this occassion it had to be
done, we needed to get in some cool water and boy was it cool.....practically
baltic!! Jay said that i was a wimp but i have to say i never saw his shoulders
fully immersed!!
After our refreshing swim we hiked back to the car and downed a few sodas
and then went to try out some Ti Rum and see the local produce. Then onto a
beautiful beach in Gosier for lunch and back via the
national park trail which is surrounded by banana plantations and lush rain
forests.
All in all a great day!
We leave the main island of Guadeloupe tomorrow and head to Ils De Saintes,
a small chic island in between Guadeloupe and Dominica, for Christmas. We have
bought our Christmas dinner, steak for J and Fresh Tuna for me - yum yum!!
Sending Christmas hugs and kisses to you all.
Until the next time
